The blockbuster 3D sci-fi epic Avatar has now overtaken The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and Titanic, to be number 1 on the all-time list of movies responsible for injuries to moviegoers, according to BoxOfficeNogo.com.
Avatar's record-breaking run of screenings, plagued by complaints of headaches, dizziness, nausea and blurred eyesight, has left industry analysts speechless. "This is like a freight train out of control," said 20th Century Fox distribution executive Bert Livingston. "It just keeps on going." *
Avatar was still trailing in third place on the Nogo list until only last week, but received an unexpected boost when it recorded its first fatality, a Taiwanese man who died of a stroke this week, eleven days after viewing the movie.
This achievement comes only days after Avatar and its director James Cameron were honoured at the Golden Globes with the coveted award for Best Health Risk.
